EUROPEAN Union Ambassador Mr. Jernej Videti has promised to reopen the tendering process so contractors can again bid to repair City Hall. The matter was discussed recently when Ambassador Videti and Mayoress Patricia Chase-Greene met at the latter’s office.

According to Ambassador Videti, seeing that the tenders received from the previous advertisement placed in the print media were not successful, the EU is willing to give interested parties another opportunity to re-tender.

He also noted that the EU will be working with the government, and by extension City Hall, to upgrade the outfall channels, so as to help maintain the integrity of the drainage system.

The Mayor and City Council is responsible for the maintenance of 11 outfall channels.

Ambassador Videti congratulated the City Council on its current efforts to restore the drainage system. He noted that during the current rainy season, many areas that were considered to be flood-prone were free of overtopping.

He said that during his interaction with Mayoress Greene, the two discussed the many other areas on which the two entities can collaborate, such as climate change, training in financial management and taxation, and the promotion of sustainable cities.

Mayores Greene, in response, said that the Council is grateful for every bit of help it can get from the diplomatic community in the area of drainage and restoration of City Hall.
