A WASH bay owner was yesterday sentenced to four years’ imprisonment after city Magistrate Judy Latchman found him guilty of possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Leroy Robertson, 35, of 17 Broad and Lombard Streets, Charlestown, who was accused of having in his possession 38 grammes of cannabis for trafficking, on February 19, 2016 at Broad Street, Charlestown, was also fined $30,000 along with his sentence.
The magistrate said she was satisfied with the evidence produced to the court — that Robertson had control over the substance. Given the weight of the substance, she said, she believes he had the drug in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Latchman made her ruling as she considered the mitigating facts of the matter, namely: the quantity of the substance; the manner of concealment; and the need to prohibit others from committing such an offence.
She also told Robertson, “Do not try this again!” after reading the sentence to him.
