Fruta Conquerors edge Pele 2-1 in Stag Elite League —GFC register first win in 14 matches

FRUTA Conquerors edged Pele 2-1 when the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Stag Elite League resumed on Saturday at the Leonara Sports facility, West Coast Demerara.The win helped Conquerors to move to second place in the league, while the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) registered their first win from 14 matches, but still remain at the bottom of the points table.
The North Ruimveldt- based team, Fruta Conquerors, came from one goal down after Julian Joseph sent Pele into the lead with a 30th minute goal. Fruta) conquerors then equalized, compliments of Jahall Greaves 71st minute goal and another from Jermey Cornette two minutes later.
The win for Fruta Conquerors takes them to 34 points, where they occupy second place behind Slingerz.
GFC, despite their 2-1 victory against the GDF, remains at the bottom of the points table on five points from Saturday night’s win and two drawn games.
Kenneth Oparaemetuch and Keron Solomon scored for the Bourda team (GFC) in the 74th and 75th minutes respectively, while Olvis Mitchell scored the soldiers’ lone goal in the 63rd minute.
Yellow cards were the order of the evening as Oparaemetuch and Tyson Carmichael of GFC were shown the yellow card in the 18th and 67th minutes respectively, while GDF’s Ordell Williams was shown the yellow card in the 52nd minute.
In the Fruta Conquerors versus Pele match, Hubert Pedro and Raphael Edwards of Fruta Conquerors were yellow-carded in the 67th and 69th minutes respectively, while in the 78th minute, Shemroy Arthur of Pele received a yellow card.
Slingerz continue to lead the points standing with 40 points from 13 victories and one draw. They have so far scored 43 goals and conceded a mere eight for a goal difference of plus 35.
Fruta Conquerors are on 34 points from their 14 games having won 11, lost two and drew one. They have 34 goals to their name and 22 against for a goal difference of plus 12.
Alpha United is third in the standing with 30 points from nine victories, two losses and three drawn games. They have scored 36 goals and conceded 11.
Pele, GDF and Buxton are all on 17 points from their 14 matches. However, Pele has a goal difference of minus five, while the GDF and Buxton have goal differences of minus six and minus 11 respectively.
Monedderlust and GFC follow in that order with 16 and five points respectively. Both teams have a goal difference of minus 25.
Meanwhile, the championship will continue on Thursday at the same venue with a double header.
In the opening game, Slingerz will tackle Pele from 18:00hrs and in the feature match, Fruta Conquerors will face Alpha United.
