THE Guyana Rugby Team, known as the Green Machine, will take on the Jamaican National Rugby team tomorrow. The game is Guyana’s second qualifier for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The game also serves as Jamaica’s third qualifier.
In a press conference yesterday at Olympic House in High Street, the Guyana Rugby Football Union, where both Jamaica and Guyana team captains and team directors were present, Guyana captain Richard Staglon said his team had their preparations hampered by the persistent rains but still they got work done.
“We used alternative grounds, and Guyana have always been a fit team and currently we are 95% fit,” said Staglon
Also addressing members of the media was Jamaica’s technical director Tezra Sannister, who stated that they were both physically and mentally prepared for the game and they believed they equalled Guyana in skills.
Echoing those sentiments was the Jamaican skipper Hubert Thomas, “We’re ready and we have already identified players to keep an eye on but on a whole we are ready for the game.”
President of the Guyana Rugby Federation, Peter Green, implored fans to come out and support the team tomorrow but hoped that the rugby field in the National Park would be left as is when the red flag was on it.
“We are asking for persons to stay off the field between now and tomorrow, we need the pitch in working condition to avoid injury and when the red flag is on the field persons must stay off.”
The game is scheduled for tomorrow at the National Park at 16.00hrs.
