THE Sanatan Vaidic Dharma Pandits’ Sabha of Region 3 condemns in no uncertain terms a most unsavoury act which took place within the Tuschen (South) mandir.The mandir was desecrated by converting it to a restaurant-type of atmosphere for the observance of Mother’s Day. Chairs and tables were arranged in the mandir. Sumptuous feasting was followed by loud Bollywood music and dancing.

This raises once again the question of the operating and regulating of pandits in Guyana. To whom are they accountable? It is presently a free-for-all type of situation. There is urgent need for a governing body with statutory powers to train, certify, appoint, and even exercise sanctions on pandits.

Had there been such a body, the pandit responsible for bringing this mandir as well as Hinduism into disrepute would have been hauled in for questioning, and disciplined accordingly.
