THE body of a bandit who was killed in a botched robbery Monday at Blackwater, in the Upper Cuyuni, will be buried in the same district after a post-mortem examination is done Saturday, police have said.The bandit was identified as former Tactical Services Unit rank, Eric Angel, a father of two, who previously resided at Number 10 Village, West Coast Berbice.
Police visited the Upper Cuyuni to retrieve the body, but were stalled by bad weather.
A police source said the body had begun to decompose, since there is no proper mortuary facility in the area, so after the autopsy the body will be buried.
According to reports, on Monday around 23:00 hours two armed bandits at Blackwater, Upper Cuyuni attempted to rob a Brazilian shop owner. The suspects attacked the shop owner and the man put up a fight. During the scuffle, one of the bandits accidentally stabbed his accomplice in the abdomen before escaping.
According to reports, the deceased bandit was previously employed as a security guard at a camp in the interior location. However, he lost his job after an argument at the camp and instead of returning home he partnered with others and executed a robbery in which he lost his life.
Meanwhile, a search is on for the second accomplice in the robbery. According to police, the suspect is known by his call name “Ant” and the authorities are confident that he will be apprehended.
