Dear Editor,
I READ, with surprise, an article titled “Guyana is not a ‘do wuh yuh want with me’ country — Trotman on BaiShanLin”, which was published in the April 21 edition of Kaieteur News.I have always respected Mr. Raphael Trotman as a young, emerging politician and as a professional, and view as laudable his laudable stint as Speaker of the National Assembly, but of recent I see the Coalition Government of APNU/AFC is reducing his independence. He is now put in the limelight to defend Minister Harmon’s infractions and his associations with a Chinese logging company.
The claim that “Guyana is not a ‘do wuh yuh want with me’ country” gives the impression that the previous administration allowed the Chinese Company to wreak havoc on Guyana, but yet there is not significant proof of this. And as such, in an effort to defend and justify Minister Harmon’s close associations with the Chinese company, Mr. Trotman resorted to lashing out at the previous administration.
It is almost a year, with almost all the necessary forensic audits completed, and yet the company cannot be sanctioned. If indeed the company was wreaking havoc and has been doing what they wanted without regard for the previous administration, how come the current administration is still yet to take any punitive action against the company?
Or is it the utterance by Mr. Trotman is a media distraction to defend his cabinet colleague being caught in a compromising photograph? As I see it, Mr. Harmon, who is afraid to engage the media, as he was once vociferous when in opposition, commenting on everything under the sun, is now mum with recent revelations, but is now pushing Mr. Trotman, who craves relevance within the coalition government, to defend him.
And I believe Mr. Trotman is slowly losing his independence and credibility by attempting to defend the wrongs of Minister Harmon.
Sincerely,
SALEEM HAMID
