THE West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are set to decline an offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to tour that country later this year.Recent reports indicated that the PCB would attempt to persuade the West Indies to play some games of a series scheduled for later this year in Pakistan.
Concerns over security has meant that no top ranked international team has toured the country since 2009 when terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.
The PCB did manage to host Zimbabwe in a series of games in May of last year and were hoping to do the same with the West Indies this year, with the help of some of the region’s most celebrated cricketers lobbying on their behalf.
Reports emanating out of Pakistan, however, suggest that sources close to the PCB have confirmed that the initial response for the WICB has been negative, citing security concerns as a major factor.
The first edition of Pakistan Super League, which included international star cricketers like Shane Watson, Chris Gayle and a host of others was also not held in Pakistan due to security concerns. The PCB, however, managed to gather the cricketers in Dubai and Sharjah to play the first edition of the T20 league.(Sportsmax.com)
