THIS year’s Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Under-18 football championship continues today with two more Group ‘A’ matches at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.The first game brings together Mackenzie High and Harmony Secondary at 14:45hrs and in the second, reigning champions Christianburg/Wismar Secondary and New Silvercity Secondary will clash.
However, the tournament got underway last Wednesday when defending three-time champions and national Digicel champions, Christianburg/Wismar, began in ominous fashion routing Harmony Secondary 10-0.
Amar Jones registered a hat-trick of goals which came in the 38th, 87th and 89th minutes, after Shaquille Campbell had opened the scoring in the 13th minute for the champions. Other goals came off the boot of Antwaine Gill in the 60th and 69th minutes, Ezekiel Clarke in the 50th minute, Keyshawan Dey in the 76th minute, Brian Johnson in the 79th and Javier Smith in the 90th minute.
In the other game on that day, Linden Technical Institute needled their way past Linden Foundation Secondary 1-0, as Coby Bourne netted in the 50th minute for the winners.
Last Thursday two more matches were played and in the first also at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Mackenzie High School scored a come-from-behind win over New Silvercity Secondary in a 3-2 victory.
Terry Lewis got the double for Mackenzie High in the 44th and 58th minutes and Taffon Alexander the other in the 50th minute. For New Silvercity, Emmanuel Atkins got both goals in the 23rd and 27th minutes.
In the second game Wisburg Secondary School secured a polished 3-0 win over Marcia Craig’s Educational Institute as Akienne Chapman scored for the Wisburg side in the 24th and 56th minutes and Joel Isaacs in the 65th for that win. (Joe Chapman)
