CT Sports: Former Sri Lanka World Cup winning Captain Arjuna Ranatunga commended the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for the decision they took to uplift the West Indies Cricket despite the huge criticism from the World T20 winning captain Darren Sammy and his teammates.

This was after players like Sammy and Dwayne Bravo had said that the WICB is the most unprofessional Cricket Board and had called them ‘immature’ while blaming its President Dave Cameron.
However, Ranatunga said the decisions which had taken by those administrators may not have pleased everybody but those decisions had helped the West Indies to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup and the ICC Men’s and the Women’s T20 World Cups.
Ranatunga said that Sri Lanka too needs such administrators who could take bold decisions for the betterment of cricket than trying to make decisions to please everybody.
“This is the best example (for working with a plan) as the West Indies won the Under-19, Women’s and Men’s T20 World Cups as they had worked according to a plan.
There are legends such as Clive Lloyd working in the system (WICB). There are administrators and ministers who understand the value of them in those countries. Though West Indies Captain criticised the WICB, they had taken decisions to uplift the West Indies cricket.
Those decisions may not be famous decisions. Famous decision will not help in uplifting the game. Administrators who take famous decisions can last long (in their positions). But when you take the right decision you may have to face problems from the public, players etc and you should have a good backbone to face those critics” said Ranatunga during a discussion on the current status of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Ranatunga also said that Sri Lanka cricket could regain their glory days once again only if the administrators are willing to take those hard decisions while looking at the big picture.(Extracted from Ceylon Today Sports)
“Today administrators and minister’s take some decisions in order to get famous and please their fans. But the damage from those decisions (for the sports) could be immense,” added Ranatunga.
