THE Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) will play a larger role at GuyExpo 2016, compared to previous years. The agency will utilise the mega-event as a training ground for the standardisation of businesses, through interaction on a one-on-one basis with exhibitors, to identify the needs of businesses in establishing quality standards.
Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin, explained that GNBS has taken on the role of being a consumer watchdog, but this is not its main focus. The primary role of the GNBS, he said, is to support business development by creating standards for businesses to implement, “Thereby improving the quality of their businesses and services, and therefore becoming more competitive. We want them to exhibit and demonstrate that role at this year’s GuyExpo,” he emphasised.
GNBS Public Relations Officer Lloyd David in an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), said that a database of the businesses that will be exhibiting will be established to continue works on standards implementation, after GuyExpo concludes.
The agency will be looking to motivate companies to embrace standards for competitiveness through quality standards and metrology, which is a system of weights and measures used to ensure measuring devices deliver accurate results.
