Guyana up 23 places in FIFA rankings … to host Canada in Int’l friendly

GUYANA have moved 23 places up the Federation International Football Association’s (FIFA) men’s world rankings to 133, following the Golden Jaguars’ recent victories in the Caribbean Football Union 2016 Scotiabank Men’s Caribbean Cup games.The Jags beat Anguilla at the National Stadium Providence, on March 22 before beating Puerto Rico at home on March 29 to top Group five in first round action.
According to a Guyana Football Federation (GFF) release, this ranking was released yesterday by FIFA and demonstrates that the Guyana National Men’s Team are no longer a force to be taken lightly within Caribbean Football Union (CFU), CONCACAF and the world of football.
In an invited comment, president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Wayne Forde,has expressed his satisfaction with this movement and extended congratulations to the management and players. “I’m indeed very happy and exceptionally proud of the players, the coaching staff and the management team for the tremendous work they’ve been doing with that team.”
He added, “The senior male team represents a brand and it’s a brand that the Executive Committee of the Guyana Football Federation will manage very carefully.
“We believe that is the brand that will position Guyana on the international stage to our rightful place so I want to encourage the nation to join me in extending a heartfelt thank you to the guys for putting in the hard work they have, over the past three international engagements and to encourage them to strive to do better as we go forward,” concluded Forde.
Guyana’s next engagement in the Caribbean Football Union 2016 Scotiabank Men’s Caribbean Cup is in June against Curacao, followed by the United States Virgin Islands.
In a related matter, Guyana will host the Canadian national team in an International friendly on May 15 2016, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
This game is scheduled to begin at 19:00hrs and is part of the Government of Guyana’s 50th Jubilee celebrations. It is being facilitated by GFF’s International Ambassador and former International Football Player/Canadian Hall-of-Famer Alex Bunbury.
