RABINDRANATH Mohan is expected to be named Anna Regina’s Mayor when the new councillors who will sit on the Town Council in the Region Two Municipality take the Oath of Office today.

Contacted last evening, Mohan acknowledged that he has been tipped for the post.

Reports are that Darshan Persaud is expected to be sworn in as Deputy Mayor. The council is expected to meet at 07:00 hrs, and voting for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will commence shortly thereafter.

At the March 18 Local Government Election (LGE), the Opposition PPP won 14 seats in the municipality of Anna Regina, as opposed to the APNU+AFC’s 2 seats.

The councillors at Mabaruma will also meet today to elect a Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Last month’s LGE saw the seats in the municipality of Mabaruma being split between the PPP and the APNU+AFC, with both sides obtaining six seats each.

The council is expected to meet at 10:00 hrs today to elect their officials.
