Food and music among main highlights for 50th Jubilee celebrations

LOCAL cuisine and music will be two of the many highlights of Guyana’s 50th Jubilee celebrations, Tourism Liaison and Logistics Officer Catherine Martin has said.Speaking with the Government Information Agency on the Tourism Ministry’s plans for the Golden Jubilee celebrations, Martin said, “We (will) have an area where you can come and taste the foodcuisine of all of our races. You can come there. So what we’re doing is: on the Sunday; traditionally, Guyanese don’t cook on a Sunday, so we want to encourage you: on that day don’t cook,” she said.

She explained that those persons who would like to taste the various local foods should attend the last day of the Golden Jubilee festivity during lunch, and have something different.

Music lovers are being encouraged to attend the Next Gen Night and the Legends Night. The Next Gen Night will feature young artistes, whereas the Legends Night will showcase artistes from the past. She promised that both young and old persons might actually like the songs they hear.

“That’s the two main components that I want to encourage people to look forward to during the 50th Jubilee festivity,” Martin said.

Guyana gained its Independence on May 26, 1966. The 50th Jubilee celebrations will promote everything local.
