A HERSTELLING, East Bank Demerara man on Monday celebrated his 100th birthday and had his wish of meeting President David Granger come true. The President visited the home of Mr. Charles Allicock, taking with him two hampers as a birthday gift.
Mr. Allicock, who was born on March 21, 1916, had often expressed a desire to meet the President, who was invited to his birthday party.
The celebration was organised by Mr. Allicock’s caretaker, Mrs. Bibi Fagu, and his neighbours, a release from the Ministry of the Presidency noted.
“I want to wish you a happy birthday.
I am happy that you are in good spirits and we all want to wish you happiness and long life,” the President told Allicock.
“We want to share in prayers for you to be comfortable and in good health. May God bless you,” the President said.
Mr. Allicock, who is a United States citizen, re-migrated to Guyana 16 years ago. He is the father of 19, grandfather of 40, and has numerous great-grandchildren.
According to relatives, despite his age, Mr. Allicock is as sharp as a tack; and can still see, hear, and even read, the Minister of the Presidency stated.
