NORTHERN Rangers Football Club picked up their first win of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) STAG Premier League with a 3-2 victory over Beacons FC, while the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Football Club defeated Flamingo 1-0 to move second on the points standings behind Western Tigers. The Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground was the battlefield for Wednesday evening’s double-header where the lawmen ensured that Flamingo picked up their third loss of the League.
As the two battled throughout the night, creating their fair share of chances, it was the Police who took the three points with a Quincy Holder strike in the 86th minute.
The win places the policemen level on nine points with Western Tigers, but are still second on the table since the West Ruimveldt-based team hold a superior goal difference and have played one game less.
Meanwhile, former national player Omalli Nassy rolled back the years when he netted a double in Northern Rangers’ 3-2 win over Beacons.
Beacons took a 2-0 lead through Chris Galloway (9th minute) and Desmond Cottam (52nd minute) while Nassy scored his first in the 60th minute and equalised five minutes later.
Sunil Logan’s goal in the 72nd minute proved to be the game-winner for Northern Rangers, who secured their first three points of the eight-team league. Beacons remain at the bottom of a cellar; winless after four matches and conceded the most goals so far – 13..
