Not guilty, says fraud accused

TAXI driver Stephon Birkett of Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown appeared on Thursday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with fraudulent conversion.It is alleged that on January 19, 2016, at Prashad Nagar, the 22-year-old was entrusted by Joshua Williams with one laptop computer valued at $150,000 in order that he would pawn the computer and take the proceeds to Williams. The police accuse Birkett of fraudulently converting the proceeds to his own use and benefit, but Birkett has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to bail for Birkett, and same was granted in the sum of $50,000.
The case will continue on March 9, 2016.
