Construction feature 35-lap race

TEAM Alanis’ Paul DeNobrega narrowly edged Team Evolution’s Marlon “Fishy” Williams to win the BR Investment/Beokie Construction feature 35-lap race in the National Park yesterday, stopping the clock at one hour 19 minutes 17.25 seconds.The race was part of an 11-race programme that was organised by national cycle coach Hassan Mohamed for a second year. The first time the 11-race programme was staged was in 2013, when Robin won the feature event in one hour 18 minutes 32 seconds.
In yesterday’s event, DeNobrega, Williams and Shaquile Agard broke from the main pack after the eighth lap, but seven laps later, a bunch of about five cyclists connected to the leading trio. However, soon after, they (chasing pack) were dropped one at a time, leaving DeNobrega, Williams and Agard at the helm of affairs and the trio kept extending their lead.
With four laps remaining, the trio had an approximately 250-metre lead on the fourth-place finisher (Orville Hinds) and a further 50 metres on the others.
With 125 metres remaining, Williams attacked the two others (DeNobrega and Agard), but rounding the home turn, DeNobrega responded, came on the outside of Williams and edged him across the finish line, winning by a front wheel.
Williams ended second, Agard third and Hinds fourth. The other two top places were occupied byMichael Anthony and Silvio Inniss.
Williams won three of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs, while Agard won two. Junior Niles, Leer Nunes and Hinds won one each.
The 10-lap race for juvenile cyclists was won by Romelo Crawford in a time of 22 minutes 51 seconds. Second was Deoraj Garbarran and third was Briton John.
Richard Charles won the five-lap race for mountain bikers ahead of Sean Budhan and Shamuel Daniels respectively.
The BMX boys’ three-lap race was won by Amaldo Narine. Second was Jerome Stephen and third was Ranella Samuels.
Sean Green of the United Kingdom was the winner of the veterans’ over 50 years five-lap race. Second was Shameer Baksh and finishing third was Warren McKay.
Linden Blackman won the veterans’ over 50 five-lap race, while Clifford Thom won the veterans’ over-60 years five-lap race.
The BMX boys 6-9 years old two-lap race was won by Jessica Mohabir. Second was John Niles and third was Shay Sue-hang.
Simeon Chee won the BMX boys’ 9-12 three-lap race ahead of John Niles and Zab Jamon respectively, while Adealie Hodge and Taran Garbarran were first and second respectively in the three-lap race for BMX boys 12-14 years old.
