JEWAN, 55, was on Tuesday remanded to prison until February 26 after he appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Wales Magistrate’s Court accused of chopping 17-year-old Maria Jones and her 10-month-old son Omar Jones last Saturday. The sugarcane harvester of Lot 70 Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara was found by police hiding in the cane fields aback of his home following the alleged attack on his daughter-in-law and his grandson.
The injured mother and son are both hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital and are said to be in stable condition.
Jones, who is said to have been frequently abused, has vowed not to continue living in the house she shared with her father-in-law.
Arrangements are to be finalized for her parents, who live in the indigenous community of Aranaputa, Rupununi to go to her rescue or alternatively her reputed husband Vinod, who works in deep South Rupununi.
