Man arrested after shooting teenager

A MAN has been arrested after a teenager was shot while walking with his friends in La Penitence, Georgetown on Sunday evening.Nathan Martin, 14, of 67 Hunter Street Albouystown was shot to the abdomen and has since been hospitalised.

Reports are that Martin and three other friends were walking along a road in La Penitence when they observed some men in a car.

Martin reportedly raised an alarm to his friends that the men in the car were armed with guns. At this point, one of the occupants of the car reportedly opened fire on him.

The vehicle then speed off and the teenager was placed into another vehicle and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was immediately taken into surgery.

It was reported also that the young man, while on his way to the hospital, identified an individual as the person who shot him and that information was passed onto the Police.

The Police then went in search of the man and managed to pick up someone fitting the description given by the teenager.

Up to late Monday, the suspect remained in Police custody as the investigations continued. The suspect reportedly denied being involved in any shooting incident and as such the Police were forced to swab his hands to check for any residue of gun powder.

Martin and his mother reportedly gave statements at the Ruimveldt Police station.
