TRINIDAD and Tobago Red Force suffered heavy defeat as hosts Guyana Jaguars completed a 105-run victory minutes before the extended tea session on the final day when their sixth-round West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League (PCL) Four-Day game ended yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium. For the Guyana Jaguars, it was their sixth consecutive outright win this season and now put the defending champions on 101 points, 19 points ahead of second-place, Barbados Pride.
Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul took four second-innings wickets, while fellow spinners Devendra Bishoo (2-56) and Gudakesh Motie (2-45) all proved too much for the Red Force batsmen.
Narsingh Deonarine and Rayad Emrit were the only batsmen to offer any resistance to the Jaguars bowlers before they were dismissed for 60 and 48 respectively.
The Red Force decline was set in motion when they lost five wickets in the morning session to crash to 101-5 at lunch, and the demolition was completed when Permaul trapped Marlon Richards leg-before-wicket for 11.
Earlier, the Jaguars declared their second innings overnight in order to give themselves enough time to bowl at the Red Force.
The Jaguars were 244-4 at the close of the third day, a massive lead of 302, with skipper Leon Johnson on 111, his third First-Class hundred and Anthony Bramble on 39.
However, the Guyana Jaguars decided they had enough runs on the board and set the tourists a target of 303 runs on the final day.
The Red Force shuffled the batting order with the aim to negate the Jaguars impressive bowling attack but that did not prevent the Guyana bowlers from making steady inroads.
Regular opener Kyle Hope began the run chase with Imran Khan, but seamers Raymon Reifer (1-31) and Keon Joseph (1-19) had good spells to give the Jaguars the early advantage.
Hope was bowled off the inside edge by Reifer while Khan was dismissed in spectacular fashion when he had his off-stump knocked out by Joseph in the 7th over.
The spinners then got plenty of turn off the straw-coloured wicket and troubled the tourists immediately.
Permaul produced two stunning deliveries to remove Yannic Cariah, caught superbly at forward short leg by Tagenarine Chanderpaul for nine and Jason Mohammed, caught at the wicket for two.
Deonarine, who was dropped on six and Yannick Ottley added 34 before Bishoo drove home further advantage by removing Ottley for 10.
Despite Ottley’s dismissal, Deonarine continued his patient knock and in the company with Evin Lewis took the Red Force to lunch, with Deonarine on 39 and Lewis on 16.
Needing a miracle to survive the remainder of the day far less reach their target, the Red Force suffered their first blow in the first over after lunch when Lewis was taken comfortably by Chanderpaul at forward short-leg off Motie.
Steven Katwaroo joined Deonarine and provided some resistance, batting for 61 minutes for his 19 before Motie removed the right-hander, caught-and-bowled.
Deonarine reached his 46th First Class fifty with a straight-driven boundary from 134 balls, but Permaul returned for his second spell and ended Deonarine’s resistance.
Emrit smashed nine fours in his 51-ball innings before he was dismissed by Bishoo.
Vishaul Singh was named man-of-the-match. The Jaguars will now travel to Barbados for round seven starting Friday.
