THE Georgetown City Council is to provide training for officers of the Linden municipality in several critical areas, including city policing and human resource management, according to City Hall Public Relations Officer (ag) Debra Lewis.
Lewis said a team of senior officers from the Linden municipality, headed by Town Clerk Jonellor Bowen, met recently with Georgetown Town Clerk Royston King and other senior officers of the Mayor and City Council to discuss areas of collaboration between the two councils that would help to build the capacity of the Linden municipality to enable it to deliver better quality services to Lindeners.
The Linden Town Clerk said she had observed advancements made by the Georgetown municipality in a number of critical areas, and thought that Linden can learn from the programmes that were implemented.
King noted that the Linden municipality had previously benefited from training staged by the Georgetown municipality for environmental health assistants and city constables. He added that the Georgetown municipality is ready to provide the necessary support to the Linden Town Council, extending City Council’s civic responsibility to its sister municipality and the citizens of Guyana.
BICYCLE PATROL
The Georgetown municipality has resuscitated its Bicycle Patrol Unit and has established a Traffic Management Unit and Anti-litter Unit within the City Constabulary.
The two municipalities have agreed to have exchange programmes wherein officers of both municipalities would do attachments in several areas, including in the City Constabulary and Personnel Section. Officers of the Linden municipality were taken on a tour of the operations of the City Constabulary Department.
