PATRICK Harris of East Bank Demerara was Monday placed on $50,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for possession of marijuana. Harris, 38, pleaded not guilty to the charge.According to his lawyer, Mr. Paul Fung-a-fat, the drug, which amounted to 14.6 grammes, was found in a bag full of clothing that the police officers found during a stop and search on the Buckhall Road, Essequibo. The lawyer pointed out that none of the clothing belonged to his client, but that the officers claimed that it was his.
Fung-a-Fat, in pleading for bail for the father of three, explained that Harris was the sole bread-winner for his family.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones made no objection to bail. The matter was transferred to the Anna Regina Magistrate Court for February 9.
