A 59-YEAR-OLD Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara man was Monday charged with marijuana possession and remanded to court. Ricky Noel Nelson of 45 Norton Street, Bagotstown faced the charge of trafficking in narcotics when he appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman.
It was alleged that Nelson had 18 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on January 22 at the Itabali River trail.
Nelson pleaded guilty to the charge and told to the court that he would usually use the substance to cure his asthma. His explanation did not find merit with the Magistrate.
Magistrate Latchman, based on the accused explanation, recorded a not guilty plea on Nelson’s behalf since the drug was for his personal use and not for trafficking.
The defendant was refused bail and ordered to return to court on February 4 before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
