The Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections yesterday and the clubs affiliated unanimously elected former Alliance for Change (AFC) Parliamentarian Trevor Williams to serve as president.

National Coach Ian Wills will serve as vice-president while, Jana Edghill (Secretary), Alistair Griffith (Treasurer), Odile Broomes (Assistant Secretary Treasure) and Allana Bese (Public Relations Officer), were the other executives elected to serve the DVA for the next year.

Williams, during his remarks thanked the clubs for their support and promised to play the role needed for the expansion of the sport across Demerara.

He made special mention of Linden, which he said had a huge amount of potential and the DVA will be placing special emphasis on the mining town for 2016.

Also high on the new DVA executive committee is the hosting of a National Volleyball Schools’ Championship and to also see the expansion of the game and new clubs being formed. The association will serve off their 2016 season within two weeks with a mini tournament.

President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF), Commander John Flores who witnessed the electoral process at the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Coast Guards Boardroom yesterday, said he is thoroughly satisfied with the outcome and hoped this new chapter will create a better atmosphere for the sport of volleyball.
