TERRENCE Alli was 31 years old when he took on Venezuelan Alfredo Rojas on January 14, 1992. The quick-fisted Guyanese junior welterweight was declared winner in the fourth round as Rojas retired. The fight was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey and was the 48th professional victory for the son of Mahaicony.
It also started the year on a successful note for Alli who won all of four fights during that 12-month period. In June he gave his home crowd something to cheer about when he knocked out Steve Larrimore in the fifth round at the world famous GCC ground.
On January 14, 1986 Guyanese lightweight Jeff Roberts was, after eight rounds, adjudged the winner by unanimous decision over Jocko King of the USA. The fight was staged at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
Roberts started out as a bantamweight in 1980 and was crowned Guyana champion when he won a Unanimous Decision over Samuel Brutus. Based in the USA, Roberts ended a career of fluctuations with a record of six victories, 16 defeats and one draw.
One loss came at the hands of Michael Benjamin. The bout took place in November of 1987 and had the lightweight title of Guyana at stake.
The result was an entertaining encounter which ended with Benjamin being adjudged winner via a majority decision.
