RTC’s anniversary Lawn Tennis tournament to kick off January 15

LAWN tennis in Guyana will look to make a running start to the year when the Rebel Tennis Club (RTC) hosts its first anniversary championship, set for January 15-24.The tournament, which is expected to feature some of the top local names getting back into the swing of things, will be played at various venues.
Club member Jamal Goodluck, during an invited comment, stated that “it (the tournament) was the baby of Andrew Erskine. He is the coach of the club and he really wants to see tennis grow into a prestigious sport.”
“Rebel is a very unique name because it is not just about being a rebel but you have to stand out in terms of discipline, academics and everything,” reminded Goodluck.
He noted that the club is hosting the tournament which is usually done by the association because the members believe that clubs need to do more on their own to grow the sport of lawn tennis.
“We found that in order for tennis to grow clubs have to step up and that’s why Rebel Tennis Club is taking the forefront in initiating a tennis tournament …,” said the Rebel member.
It will be played in two categories, the men and ladies singles, and will be played at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue, National Park and Nash’s Tennis Club during the evening under lights
Admission for fans is free.
