BEACONS Football Club and Sunburst Camptown are the final two teams to qualify for the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Banks Beer Cup following matches played on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.Beacons battled tooth and nail against a determined Flamingo side who were not making the night easy for the eventual winners.
Both teams created chances but were unable to effectively finish them as halftime ended with the deadlock still in place, both teams looking for the decisive strike to get them ahead.
However, it would be Flamingo who first assumed the lead thanks to Sheldon Gurrick who successfully converted in the 70th minute.
That spurred a call to action for the Beacons side who 13 minutes later benefited from a penalty, which was successfully converted by Christian Garraway in the 83rd minute.
Further attempts at goals would prove futile as the game ended deadlocked and the same resulted after two 15-minute extra-time periods.
Coming down to the first penalty shootout of the tournament, Beacon easily triumphed 4-2 over Flamingo.
The second game of the evening was straightforward for the Sunburst Camptown side who defeated Northern Rangers 2-0.
On the stroke of halftime Sunburst Camptown opened their account thanks to Rishawn Sandiford while Anthony Sancho in the 88th sealed the deal against the nippy Rangers.
Beacons and Camptown now join Western Tigers, New Amsterdam, Police, Santos, Rosginol and Riddim Squad into the next round.
