A Sophia man might drink less and dress less fanciful for Christmas. The police, up to late yesterday, were hunting a lone gunman who attacked Lloyd Scott, 34, and robbed him of his liquor and clothing on Thursday morning as he was walking along the roadway in ‘B’ Field, Sophia.
According to a police press statement, Scott was walking along the road when he was attacked by the man who was armed with a firearm.
A scuffle ensued between the bandit and Lloyd, following which Lloyd was shot to his left foot and hand.
The bandit then made good his escape. The victim had enough strength to raise an alarm, and persons came out and assisted him in making his way to the hospital to seek medical attention.
The victim has been admitted to hospital, even as police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the police were called to the scene where a body was discovered on Thursday morning.
The body was identified as that of 56-year-old Mohamed Fizal Baksh of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, who was missing for a few days now. The body was discovered at Number 63 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
A post-mortem performed on the remains gave the cause of death as haemorrhage and shock due to a fractured skull. Mohamed had been missing since December 21, according to his relatives, and a missing person’s report had been filed with the police.
