WITH the Canadian authorities expressing an interest in him last month after they had brought down a cocaine and gun-running ring in that country, the local Guyanese entertainer attached to the Hits and Jams Entertainment company on Wednesday evening turned himself over to law enforcement in that country. This was communicated to Guyanese authorities and confirmed by head of the Customs Anti- Narcotics Unit (CANU) James Singh when contacted by this publication last evening. Singh said that he is aware that the young man now in the custody of the Canadian law-enforcement agency as was communicated to him by them, but could not provide details with respect to who the lawyer is that accompanied the young man into the police.
Dwight Ferguson was wanted after the guns and cocaine ring that has connections to Guyana and other Caribbean countries was busted. The police in Canada held a press conference where they spoke extensively about the operation and also mentioned the Guyanese name.
Just days before that bust, the young man had travelled to that country and when word of the bust was circulated, he quickly went into hiding. The other persons who were arrested have all been placed before the courts in Canada and Dwight is expected to face the same fate also.
The law-enforcement body in Canada is convinced that the young man is part and parcel of the ring and it was during the press conference last month that the police there stated that the persons who were arrested as part of the ring are not low-level players, but rather persons who have been very much involved in shipping guns and cocaine into Canada.
Since the story about the involvement of Dwight and his role in allegedly smuggling cocaine and drugs into Canada, there has been no official word from the Hits and Jams Company here in Guyana regarding the matter. Hits and Jams is one of the leading promotion companies in Guyana which is known for hosting successful regional and international shows locally featuring artistes from the Caribbean and North America among other places. Dwight Ferguson is also the brother of one of the part owners of Hits and Jams Entertainment.
