ELEVEN persons were yesterday injured after the truck in which they were traveling, careened off a trail and slammed into a tree stump and overturned after the steering cut loose along the Salbora Trail 111 Miles Mahdia Region 8.According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle newspaper, the truck was being driven by 52-year-old Charles Burrows of 111 Miles, Mahdia, Potaro when it developed mechanical problems.
The driver of the truck and mining camp owner Charles Burrows who was also flown to the city for medical attention, said that he was heading from one camp location to another when the steering of the truck snapped, causing the truck to run off the trail. His wife, who was at the Ogle Airport after accompanying him on a flight from the area, explained that the incident took place around noon yesterday. She explained that the men who were injured all work with her husband and it was the entire crew on the truck at the time of the accident.
Following the accident seven of the injured were air dashed to the city but none was in a critical condition. The other persons who were injured were treated at the Mahdia Health Centre.
The medevac airlift was facilitated by Roraima Airways which brought the injured out in two separate planes.
The Georgetown Public Hospital responded to the emergency by sending three ambulances along with support staff to ensure the proper handling of the injured and their safe delivery to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
