Red House

– being considered as research centre for all presidents
Though saying the “Red House” deal was a criminal one, Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister Basil Williams today disclosed that the Government through his Office has been engaged in discussion with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) for the return of the property.
Given the fact, that the Red House property was one of the State he said it should not be used as a research centre for one president but all presidents, an issue that will be addressed during the ongoing discussions.
Although being a property of the State, the Red house land was transferred under the guise of a lease which was grossly undervalued.
The Red House was restored using public funds amounting to millions of dollars but was transferred on a lease agreement for 99 years for $1000 a month to what was established as the Cheddi Jagan Research Inc., the company set up to run the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre.
