Suspects in Pouderoyen armed robbery arrested

FIVE suspects have been arrested and are cooperating with investigators in connection with an armed robbery last Thursday at Sookram’s residence, Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD). According to reports, the suspects, whose apprehension is due to diligent work by ranks of ‘D’ Division, are likely to be charged soon and placed before the court.

Around 20:30 hrs on Thursday, five men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and the others with cutlasses, entered the home of Andy Sookram, 54, of 82 Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, WBD, and tied up himself and occupants, Andrew Sookram, 18, and Esardai Sookram, 47.

The men then took away two generators, a weeding machine, eight gold finger rings, two gas cylinders and four cell phones and escaped.

During the home invasion, the bandits terrorised the victims and even dealt them some blows about their bodies before making good their escape after spending some time inside the house ransacking it and selecting what they wanted.
The house is without electricity and the family had received barrels from overseas, which included the generators, among other things.
