MINISTER within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr Karen Cummings last Friday, on behalf of the ministry, made a donation to Treasurer of the Mabaruma Heritage Committee, Amanda Gomes.The Mabaruma Heriage Committee is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) involved in promoting various cultural activities, sports and health-related issues such HIV/AIDS awareness programmes in Region One (Barima-Waini) communities for the past nine years.
Meanwhile, the communities of that region have benefited economically and socially from the activities spearheaded by the committee in the past years.
The mission of the Mabaruma Heritage Committee Initiative is to help young, underprivileged youths and communities by providing opportunities through training programmes and by assisting communities to promote culture and sports.
The Mabaruma Heritage Committee Initiative also aims to develop a closer relationship with members of the public, business community and community leaders.
It also seeks to collaborate with government ministries and other stakeholders in order to make a positive difference in the lives of the poor and the needy, in order to foster self-confidence and personal growth.
