Atwell priming for `Brawl in the Mall’

CLIVE ‘The Punisher’ Atwell believes that this weekend’s `Brawl in the Mall’ boxing fixture, compliments of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) and Next Gen Promotions, is another stepping stone in his career. The Punisher, who faces Dexter Gonsalves for the (Central American Boxing Federation) FECABOX super lightweight title, spoke to the media about the fight, saying, “When I come, I come in full strength, whether at short notice or no notice because this is what I do. I’ve learnt to put myself in shape.”
The Dominica-based Guyanese indicated that his tough stint in the United States was the result of being ‘out of the game’ for some time but the lessons learnt there were invaluable, and come Saturday, it’s going to be ‘just another day at the office.’
“Funny enough, I came into this sport and met Dexter in the sport, and to this day I’ve been able to exceed the level where he is at,” said Atwell, adding, “I know he predicts a fourth round knockout. He’s going to come gunning for it and I’ll be looking for it and I’ll be ready and willing to adjust to whatever, however, whenever to take it away on Saturday night.”
Apart from the Gonsalves/Atwell fixture, the night will feature professional debutant Imran Khan taking on David Thomas in a lightweight scrap over four rounds.
The opening bout of the night features debutant Terrence Adams against Keeve Allicock over four rounds in a featherweight contest while the main supporting bout has Anson Green and Quincy Gomes in a six-round junior welterweight contest.
In the amateur division at the Youth lightweight level, Orin Bancroft of the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) is matched against Harpy Eagles’ Travis Hubbard while in the Elite flyweight division Tefon Green (GDF) faces Dexter Wray (Republican).
Welterweight action would see Glenroy Smith (Essequibo Boxing Gym) against Republican’s Clifton Graham while Nankumar Singh (Republican) and Kelon King (FYF) will match gloves in a lightweight contest.
Saturday night’s boxing card will be held at the newly constructed Giftland Mall at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara..
