OVER 32 teams, representing various companies across Guyana, will be vying for top honours and cash prizes when the Banks Beer Inter-Corporation Futsal Tournament kicks off tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. With support from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Trophy Stall, the Ministry of Tourism, National Sports Commission (NSC) and Banks DIH (Banks Beer), the tournament the winners will pocket $200 000, second-placers $150 000, third-placers $100 000 and fourth-placers $50 000.
At the tournament’s launching yesterday, DIH Banks Beer manager Brian Choo said that his company is only fulfilling their social obligation and further committed their support in ensuring that the event is well attended.
Director of Sport Christopher Jones lauded the organisers for putting together the tournament and said that the NSC is pleased to be on board.
The GFF’s Marketing and Communications director, Rawle Toney, expressed the Federation’s delight at not only sanctioning the tournament but also lending support through the form of official Futsal equipment.
Toney said that the GFF was pleased to be associated with the tournament which caters to the needs of the not-so-fundamentally-sound football players and also helps to promote the format of Futsal.
The teams will play in a round-robin format before the top two teams from each group advance to the knock-out stage.
