THE October Criminal session in Demerara opens today with the traditional ceremonial parade.
Four judges of the High Court are assigned to preside over 216 cases, including 32 for murder, 24 for manslaughter and 114 for rape, plus others for causing death by dangerous driving, incest, narcotics, wounding, attempted murder and robbery, etc.
The judges are Madam Roxane George, Mr. Navindra Singh, Madam Jo-Ann Barlow and Madam Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
One of the four judges will inspect a Guard of Honour drawn from 60 ranks of the Tactical Services Unit and will subsequently take the salute during the march past of the parade.
The parade of the Police Band and members of the Tactical Services Unit will mark the opening of the session this morning.
Following the parade, the judges, Registrar and other officials will meet in the Chief Justice’s Chamber for a short recess before taking up their places in their respective courts.
