WEST Indies coach Phil Simmons has asked that a meeting with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) be postponed. The embattled coach was expected to meet with the WICB Human Resources Committee today to answer questions regarding his recent outburst.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, however, the meeting has been postponed for a few days after Simmons asked for a longer interval to prepare.
Ahead of the team’s tour of Sri Lanka Simmons had alleged outside interference with regard to picking the team, after failing to get both Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo recalled to the One-Day International team.
According to Simmons both himself and convener of selectors Clive Lloyd had attempted to get the players reinstated but were outvoted 3-2 by the selection panel.
The coach was suspended last Monday. Simmons has, however, since apologised for the outburst referring to it as a lapse in judgement caused by a “moment of madness”.
At the meeting the coach is expected to be asked to justify his comments regarding the accusation of outside interference. Should he be unable to justify the statement he is expected to face the disciplinary committee.
Simmons, who is currently in England, made the comments at the end of the West Indies cricket team camp in Barbados last week.
