WITH the hype building for the third leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in Barbados, fans are already showing support for their favourite racers, but many have forgotten the dark horse in the mix – Joel Neblett.Neblett, the fifth member of the team in Guyana’s superbike division to Bushy Park, has often shown his ability to upset a field and is banking on this factor come September 13.
Neblett, known trackside as GM, said “All in all, I’m pretty confident about bringing home points, even considering myself as a dark horse in this one because of the hype that some of the other riders have generated on social media and in the press, so I will use that as a motivating factor.”
“My bike had some issues the other day (August 9) when we raced, but we have since corrected those problems and we are hoping for a trouble-free day of racing next week. I hope that we can get the bikes early so I can get some seat time before qualifying,” he added.
He continued, “From what I’ve heard, the competition this year (in Barbados) will be stiff, the guys have been really practising and I expect a challenge.”
His yellow, blue and black Suzuki GSXR 600, sponsored by Leon Dorado and Ryan Busby, will join the likes of Matthew, Elliot and Stephen Vieira as well as Kevin Persaud on the superbike team on tour to the land of the flying fish
On the four-wheel end of things, the Group 4 has a strong showing with Mark Vieira, the Jeffrey duo of Kristian and his father Kevin as well as Danny Persaud.
Persaud will also represent Guyana in the Group 3 division while Nazim Gafoor is in Group 2. (Stephan Sookram)
