GRFU annual general meeting set for September 27

THE Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will hold its long-awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office-bearers on September 27, according to current president Peter Green. Greene said that the lack of an updated financial record had delayed the election process but now that everything has been settled, elections will go forth as planned.
The current GRFU head said, “Some people would say that my style of leadership is very stern and they are people that want to see the back of me and then there are people that want me to come back; it’s all up to the general membership.”
Meanwhile, Green disclosed that they are keen on getting a newer beach form of the game launched, an initiative that is the brainchild of the North American Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA).
He continued, “Starting next year, sometime in November we will be introducing to the public beach rugby, with a complete beach rugby pitch coming down in November from NACRA, and we are hoping to approach Hits and Jams for the use of their water world. It would be great.”
He noted too that NACRA has reviewed its stance on the women’s side of the game adding, “The NACRA people are looking to change up the programme, so women rugby will be very up there because NACRA wants to see women’s rugby international by April 2016.”
“Our girls have already had their taste for 7s this year in North Carolina. They didn’t do too well but they have a lot of promise, so we have women’s rugby, the Under-19 and then we have the school developmental programme,” said Green.
