THE Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Public Infrastructure yesterday announced that the water that had accumulated in the River View community of Ruimveldt and parts of Alexander Village is receding.
This accumulation had followed a mishap at the Ruimveldt Sluice Door, which resulted in flooding earlier on Tuesday morning. The sluice was scheduled to be closed at 02:00hrs on August 18, ahead of the 05:45hrs high tide.
A release from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure has said that the sluice door had stuck, causing rising water to inundate the two communities. A pump was immediately activated, and the sluice was re-opened at 09:30 hrs to expedite draining of the water from the land.
The ministry has offered expert advice to correct the situation, and the Mayor and City Council is investigating the matter.
