MANY are not aware that such a cosy and comfortable nightclub exists, secluded at the junction of Middle and East Streets, Georgetown; and even Bombshell almost missed it as we trekked last weekend in and around the city. What drew my attention was the elaborate signboard that signalled ‘Cody’s Place’, and its classy exterior certainly pulled at my heart strings. Heeding my very curious nature, I passed through the impressive swinging glass doors and was engulfed by really cool, but not uncomfortably cold, air conditioning.
I was taken aback upon entering, and just adored the posh, high back sofas that surround glossy looking marble tables in various shades that seemed to emit moods of romance, flirtatious allure, refreshing relaxation, and a provocative sizzle, before simmering down into almost sleepy, hazy solitude.
This was certainly the club of everyone’s dream. But did they know there dream was right around the corner?
The flashing illuminating lights were of the right shades, and not the startling glares that almost blind you at some clubs. And my goodness, the music truly turning me on!!! And it was just soft to allow conversation but not too low to take away from the enjoyment.
Most of all, it was the service that left me enthralled. Pretty, smiling waitresses buzzed about, getting everyone their favourite drinks and cutters; and trust me, cutters’ orders were delivered in just about twenty minutes at the most.
The washrooms were ‘spick and span’, and this club smelled like pure heaven.
Speaking with staff members, we learnt that there was also a restaurant that offered some of the best in Creole dishes ‘hot from the pot’.
Entertainment
There is really nothing to do around town on Mondays and Tuesdays; but if you pop in at this joint, you can soak up lulling mixed music as you hang at the impressive bar and watch sports programmes or catch up on the day’s gossip.
On Wednesdays, the club comes alive with their ‘Rock Steady Wednesdays’, featuring mixed music and live performances by Ras Leon Saul, Canada-based Prince Ali, and some of Guyana’s hottest artistes.
On Thursday nights, DJ Wayne sets the place on fire with one of the most sizzling karaoke and interaction sessions ever. With a musical reservoir that offers patrons a choice of practically any music, this DJ takes fans to the brink of ‘karaoke insanity’ with his selections and vibes.
The karaoke continues on Friday night with the popular DJ Joe, who brings out the pain, the joys, the sorrows and the good times as he takes patrons down a vivid memory lane with his ‘musical mix’.
On Saturday night, patrons converge for the steamy ‘Oldies Fiesta’ that allows them to dance and reminisce on the days when they were sixteen and alive with teenage fire.
On Sunday nights its simmering time, as DJ Joe again takes you back to yesteryear with a karaoke session that allows you to get in the groove and abandon give up your fears and inhibitions.
