Gabriel brothers remanded after other man beaten unconscious at Mahdia

THE Gabriel brothers will be spending the next two months in prison after they were refused bail when they appeared in court yesterday charged over an altercation that ended with a third man being beaten unconscious.John and Mark Gabriel were not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read to them by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against the men is that on Sunday at Campbelltown, Mahdia they maliciously wounded Alan Francis with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to the defendants receiving their pretrial liberty, citing the nature and gravity of the offence. Jones also stated that Francis is still hospitalised in a serious condition.
The prosecutor said that on the day in question, the virtual complainant was walking along a road in Campbelltown when he met the two defendants. A misunderstanding occurred and the two men lunged at him and launched a merciless beating on the man.
The brothers, John, 17, and his bother Mark, 19, both miners from the Campbelltown area, appeared unrepresented.
The prosecutor’s objection to bail was upheld and the men were remanded. They will appear at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court on October 19.
