Charlestown teen granted bail over theft of $120,000 cellular phone

A SEVENTEEN-year-old boy accused of stealing a cellular phone was placed on $75,000 bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Shame Clark of Charlestown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, particulars of which stated that on August 3 at Robb Street, Bourda he stole an IPhone 4S, valued $120,000 property of Karen Jones.
The unrepresented teen told the court that he is unemployed while he is waiting on his CXC results. Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not relate the facts to the court but noted that the defendant had admitted to the theft of the phone and told the police that he sold it ‘under the (Stabroek Market) clock’ for $5,000.
Deniro did not object to bail but requested a substantial amount with conditions attached. The accused was ordered to report to the Alberttown Police Station every Friday at 09:00 hrs and the case was adjourned until August 18.
