Teenager charged for assaulting ‘much older’ lover

EIGHTEEN-year-old Trellon John, called Ryan, who allegedly assaulted his much older lover after she decided to end the relationship, was slapped with charges of assault, threatening behaviour and simple larceny. He appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Marcus-Isaacs in the New Amsterdam Court, where he denied the charges, was placed on $20,000 bail, and is expected to return to court on August 3.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, prosecuting, said the defendant and the virtual complainant, Gloria McLennon were friends, but the latter decided to end the relationship.
On realising he was no longer wanted, the defendant became abusive and would habitually assault and threaten the complainant.
Matters came to a head on July 3 last, while McLennon was in a store on Trinity Street. Walking up to her, the defendant reportedly slapped her in the face and threatened to kill her, before escaping with her handbag containing some $7,000 worth of confectioneries. The victim reported the matter to the Central Police Station.
In court, however, the teenage defendant said he and the woman had been in a sexual relationship since he was 14.
“She bruk me out!” he said. “Now she want lef’ meh!”
