George finishes sixth in 400m final

TORONTO, Canada – Guyana ended the 2015 Pan Am Games on a disappointing note with Winston George, their last hope, placing sixth in the final of the men’s 400 metres at the York University Stadium here.George, who ran out of lane one, clocked a creditable 45.58 seconds, just below his personal best of 45.51 but it wasn’t good enough to earn him a medal. The time also bettered his performance in the heats which was 46.39 seconds.
The Guyanese had claimed his place in the final by qualifying as one of the fastest two finishers from the two heats with the top three athletes being automatic qualifiers.
The event was won by Luguelin Santos of The Dominican Republic whose winning time was 44.56 seconds. Trinidad and Tobago’s Michael Cedenio claimed the silver medal, clocking 44.70 while the bronze went to USA’s Kyle Clemons (44.84)
