ACCUSED Leonard Singh of the city, who was on trial at the Demerara Assizes facing a two-count indictment for rape said to be committed on a 14-year-old girl was freed by the jury yesterday.Singh, represented by Attorney-at-law, Mr. Nigel Hughes, had pleaded not guilty to the offence heard by the mixed jury before Justice Dawn Gregory.
The jury took less than 30 minutes to reach the unanimous verdict of not guilty.
Following the verdict Singh was discharged by the judge.
Leading prosecutrix for the prosecution was Miss Mercedes Thompson.
