CHARGE d’Affaires at the U.S. embassy, Bryan Hunt, during his call on Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings, outlined plans on how the U.S. and Guyana intend to move forward in developing Guyana’s health sector.In brief remarks, Hunt disclosed that he met with the minister to give her a better understanding of what the US has been doing to assist Guyana in the health sector and also to understand the minister’s vision for the sector, going forward.
That apart, Hunt said that he was able to ascertain what are the Government’s plans and what they would like the US to assist them in looking at and focusing on as they move forward.
Minister Cummings on the other hand disclosed that during the meeting, they discussed ways in which the US would assist Government in the HIV/AIDS programme, and how they intend to move forward with the programme.
Also discussed were ways in which the Peace Corps could serve as a force multiplier in the sense of assisting in the provision of health education to not only the coastland, but also in remote areas of Guyana.
