Haiti beat Honduras to inch closer to quarterfinals

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (CMC) – Haiti earned a one-nil victory over Honduras to move a step closer to clinching a third-ever berth in the quarterfinals in CONCACAF Gold Cup Group A action here Monday night.

Duckens Nazon scored the lone goal in the first half to seal the win and push the Haitians closer to their first CONCACAF quarter-final berth since 2009.
The Haitians showed more aggression from the start of the game with Nazon forcing goalkeeper Donis Escobar to parry away a shot in as early as the first minute.
Nazon converted his second goal of the tournament to put Haiti ahead in the 14th minute.
Goalkeeper Jhony Placide played a long ball up the middle of the field that Kervens Belfort flicked on.
Nazon beat Honduras captain Maynor Figueroa to the ball and bounced his shot from the right side of the box inside the far post.
Haiti’s win knocks Honduras out, marking the first time they have failed to advance out of the group stage since 2003.
