A 42-year-old construction worker, who was attacked by three cutlass-wielding men on Pike Street, Kitty on Tuesday morning, is currently warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), nursing multiple chop wounds to both hands and feet. The victim, Lennox Lewis of 131 Pike Street, Kitty, who shares the famous name of the last undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion, recalls walking along Pike Street on Tuesday around 10:00 hrs when he was confronted by two or three men, each armed with a cutlass.
Lewis, a father of two, said he recognised the men as being persons with whom he previously had a misunderstanding. As the men began firing chops at him, he ran into a yard, but they hotly pursued him with a vengeance, dealing him several chops. He said he grabbed an available piece of wood and tried warding them off, but was eventually overpowered.
Neighbours witnessing the commotion shouted at the men to leave Lewis alone, but they persisted, Lewis recalled, adding that they seemed determined to chop him to death.
“By then we ended up under an old shed, and like a zinc sheet or something fall ‘pon dem and they suddenly stopped chopping and run away,” the injured man related.
The wounds to Lewis’ hands and feet took several stitches; one of his left fingers is almost severed, while the wounds to his feet went bone deep. (Shirley Thomas)
